Family,
Service yesterday went so well. It is remarkable how easily a team can worship if they have confidence. When we aren’t worried about the actions or the procedures of worship, like the notes or the chords or the order of service, then it’s easier to enter into a state of worship.
And I was honored to build up the team, if only slightly, so that they could have the confidence to worship freely and completely.
I was fortunate to sing as a background vocalist (BGV) while also MDing. Some people have asked me how it felt to sing BGV - with my eyes closed, it felt no different than worshipping in the congregation.
Here’s a video from someone in the congregation:
Here’s what I’ve been up to (not exhaustive):
Christmas service at RRC BRU (🙌)
Belgian McDonald’s (CBO is wild - and you can get little French donuts?!)
Hanging out with Jack and Brooke Davies (and their son, Luke)
I love these people. Jack and Brooke have been missionaries in Europe for nearly a decade and a half, and their heart for the Lord is extraordinary.
Went to the Lueven Christmas market
This is definitely the best market I’ve been to so far. It felt much more like a county fair than a tourist attraction
Lueven is also a college town, so that helps as well
Visited Kringwinkel (Flemish thrift store)
Booked my flights to Zurich (Switzerland) to observe ICF services on the 29th
And, because of how the logistics are shaking out, I will be returning to the States on the 30th from Zurich
Here’s what I’ve learned:
There are (bright green) parakeets all across Belgium, and they live in the parks within the city
The Myers also have a bunch of (bright green) parakeets in their neighborhood’s forest
Here’s a neat New York Times article about the parakeets
The preferred athletic activity in Brussels seems to be running. I have never seen as many runners as in Brussels
In the Netherlands, there’s a strong historical connection to the family of Orange. William, Prince of Orange played a significant role in the Battle of Waterloo. This is why the Netherland’s national color (including their soccer uniforms) are orange, even though orange is nowhere in the flag.
Here we go,
